FAQs

  • 1. Should I set up a limited company or stay a sole trader?

It depends on how much you earn, how you want to pay yourself and your plans for growth. A limited company can be more tax-efficient and protects your personal assets, but it also comes with more admin. We'll talk it through with you and help you decide, and if a company is right, we can set it up for you.

  • 2. What's the best way to pay myself as a director?

Most directors take a mix of salary and dividends, but the right balance depends on your personal circumstances and your company's profits. We'll work out the most tax-efficient approach for you and review it as your business grows.

  • 3. What deadlines do I need to know about?

Limited companies have several key deadlines each year, including annual accounts for Companies House, the Corporation Tax return and payment, and the confirmation statement. You may also have VAT and payroll deadlines. We keep track of them all and remind you in good time, so you never face a late filing penalty.

  • 4. When do I need to register for VAT?

You must register once your taxable turnover goes over the VAT threshold. Some businesses choose to register earlier because it can make them look more established or help them reclaim VAT on costs. We'll advise on whether and when to register, and which VAT scheme suits you best.

  • 5. Do I need a CFO, or just an accountant?

If you mainly need your accounts, tax and payroll handled, an accountant is enough. If you're raising investment, scaling fast or making big strategic decisions, CFO-level support gives you forecasting, reporting and senior advice without the cost of a full-time finance director. We offer both, so you can move up as you grow.
